Netanyahu says campaign against Iran “not yet over” amid ceasefire talks in Pakistan
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the campaign against Iran is “not yet over” as the US and Iran conducted ceasefire negotiations in Pakistan in an effort to end the war.
“The campaign is not yet over, but it can already be said clearly - we have achieved historic results,” Netanyahu said in Hebrew in a televised statement on Saturday evening.
In a 13-minute speech that appeared to be directed at a domestic audience, Netanyahu listed what he said were Israel’s major accomplishments during the war, including the killing of Iran’s top leadership and the destruction of its nuclear and missile capabilities. Noting Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium, Netanyahu said it will be removed either by an agreement or “by other means.”
Iran is begging for a ceasefire,” Netanyahu claimed. “The regime of terror is deeply weakened. They are fighting for their own survival.” Despite Netanyahu’s boastful statement, a series of nationwide polls last week found that most Israelis do not believe the US and Israel won the war against Iran.
Netanyahu also said he had approved direct talks with Lebanon, set to take place in Washington next week. He said any agreement must include the disarmament of Hezbollah and be a true peace agreement “that will endure for generations.”
